Seven Reasons to Attend CCA Conference

Annual conference offers industry insight

Word doesn’t always travel far or fast in the small, niche industry of proprietary schools. For many executives in this business, major events like the Career College Association’s Annual Convention & Exposition represent an important opportunity to stay on top of the latest issues and network with others who share similar struggles.

The CCA conference is the nation’s foremost gathering for career college professionals. This year, the event will be held at the Venetian Resort Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, Nev., on June 12-14.

There are a multitude of reasons why industry professionals feel they should attend the conference, said Mark Robbins, Vice President, Membership and Communications at CCA.

“The conference is the premier event for the career college sector,” said Robbins. “It is the only time throughout the year where you can get high-level executives and decision makers in one place.”

Robbins provided Career College Central with his list of the seven most important reasons why proprietary school executives should attend the CCA conference.

  1. The attendees:
The CCA conference is the nation’s largest gathering of Career College and For-Profit Higher Education personnel. Every year, CCA provides a venue for decision makers in the industry to learn more about what is happening in this ever-changing sector.
  2. Networking:
At no other time this year will such a large gathering of career college professionals be in one place. The conference is the premier event for executives to come together and share ideas about issues facing the industry.
  3. Exhibits, exhibits and more exhibits:
This year’s CCA conference will host the largest number of exhibit spaces in its history. A total of 209 exhibit spaces will fill the convention hall at the Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino. The total is up from the 163 booths that were present at last year’s event. The conference is a great opportunity for vendors and career college professionals to interact.
  4. Informational sessions:
The CCA conference offers informational breakout sessions packed into three days. More than 30 sessions will explore a wide range of topics in the categories of Admissions, Education, External Operations, Internal Operations and Student Services/Placement for CCA members and non-members alike. Some of these topics include:
    • Effective Distance Learning
    • Women in Career College Leadership Roles
    • Compliance and Ethics in the Financial Aid Office
    • Barriers to Student Retention: Why Do Students Fail?
  5. What do they really think:
Researcher Peter Hart has conducted a survey on the perceptions and attitudes of the public about the career college industry. In his keynote address at the general session on June 14, Hart will present his results.
  6. And the award goes to …:
The CCA conference is more than networking, keynote speakers and priceless information. Every year, organizers recognize the outstanding people of the career college industry during the annual awards ceremony. These categories include: State Association, Allied Member of the Year, Teacher of the Year, Community Service, Hall of Fame, Lifetime Achievement and Pioneer Award.
  7. FUN!
All work and no play is no way to enjoy the CCA conference. Not only is the event held in a city that offers countless activities, but the Imagine America Golf Tournament and Foundation Gala are opportunities to support the Imagine America Foundation scholarship programs. These two events are great opportunities for attendees to get together outside of the convention atmosphere for more networking and fun.
